A Bittersweet Announcement
Thank you for the honor of serving as Director of Senior Services for Jewish Social Services. It has been a privilege beyond description and added such meaning to each day. So, it is that with a sense of gratitude and trepidation that I am letting you know of my decision to leave my position with JSS as of July 1, 2012.
It is not an easy decision, but I am mindful of the words of Pirke Avot—the Ethics of the Sages: “Shem tov mi shemen tov – A good name is worth more than precious oil.” I do hope to leave with a ‘good name’ and in so doing, make room for a new social worker who will, hopefully, approach the honor of the role with zest and be fortunate enough to discover the same kavannah that I have found.
For the past nearly 30 years, it has been a joy to participate in the building and strengthening of this community. I have come to love both the task and the people. I am deeply aware of the good that Jewish Social Services creates throughout Madison and of its pivotal role. Being a part of it has been like holding a sacred trust. I have certainly cherished it as such. It will be difficult to say goodbye, but I will rely on you to help me as we move forward. For my part, I will do whatever I can to make the transition a good one and this community even better.
