Aren't JSS and Jewish Federation of Madison really the same organization?
How many people does JSS serve each year?
I always give to Jewish Federation of Madison. Doesn't that gift also help JSS?
Where does JSS' financial support come from?
If you are asking for financial support from members of the community, why don't you charge fees for most of your services?
No, they are not. Since 1978, Jewish Social Services of Madison, Inc. has operated as a wholly autonomous agency with our own mission, directors, budget, employees and officers.
JSS is a partner agency in the United Way of Dane County and is a member of a number of local, state and federal organizations, including the Association of Jewish Family and Children's Agencies.
For the last number of years, our client base has been steady at 800-950 individuals annually. We speak with everyone who contacts us directly or is referred by another agency. We strive to avoid waiting lists. If we are unable to assist, we guide people to appropriate resources.
Yes, Jewish Federation of Madison has traditionally provided much-needed support, both in the form of administrative assistance and grants. However, only about 11% of the Jewish Federation of Madison budget is designated to JSS and 79% of our support comes from other sources.
Annually, 45% comes through gifts from individuals like you. 15% is from the United Way of Dane County and 19% is from grants, foundations and investment income. Approximately 21% is from Jewish Federation of Madison.
JSS prides itself in guaranteeing access to all, regardless of financial means. We insure that we can serve the "reluctant client" by removing fees as a barrier. Those who are able are invited to make donations to the agency and, each year, many do.
